About
Trine Enchanted Edition is where it all began — the game that established Frozenbyte as a world-class developer and introduced one of gaming's most beloved fantasy universes. A magical artifact called the Trine brings together three unlikely heroes: Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight, and Zoya the Thief, binding their souls and sending them on a quest to restore balance to a kingdom overrun by undead.
The original Trine invented the physics-based puzzle platformer formula that the series would refine across five entries. Players switch between the three heroes at will, each with distinct abilities that open different solutions to every challenge. Amadeus conjures and levitates objects; Pontius charges with his shield and deflects magic; Zoya fires arrows and swings on a grappling hook.
The Enchanted Edition is a fully remastered version of the original, featuring updated visuals, improved physics, and online co-op support for up to three players. It remains a landmark of 2D game design — a perfect balance of challenge and wonder that holds up brilliantly to this day.
History
Trine
The original Trine launched on July 2, 2009 for Windows PC. Developed and self-published by Frozenbyte, it was a breakout success — a physics-based puzzle platformer praised for its lush hand-painted visuals, inventive three-hero co-op, and fairy-tale atmosphere. It established the series formula that would span five entries and became one of the defining indie titles of its era.
Trine: Enchanted Edition
Released on July 24, 2014, the Enchanted Edition was a full revisit of the original game. Frozenbyte updated the visual effects, added online multiplayer for up to three players, introduced mid-level saving, and delivered a range of gameplay refinements. The update also brought Trine to new platforms — Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, and Wii U — greatly expanding its reach. Players who owned the original on Steam received the Enchanted Edition as a free upgrade.
